At AESSEAL South Africa, we believe that investing in education is investing in long-term reliability and plant efficiency.
We recently had the privilege of hosting a comprehensive “Mastering Mechanical Seals” training program for a group of 40 refinery employees, focusing on building deep understanding and practical skills around mechanical seals and associated systems.
Over several days, participants were immersed in theoretical and hands-on learning, covering topics critical to plant reliability and uptime.
These included:
- The fundamentals of mechanical seals
- Correct installation techniques
- Common fault-finding methods
- Seal failure analysis, and
- Best practices for system maintenance
A highlight of the program was the practical training on the API Plan 53B seal support system, which is widely used on the learners’ site. The hands-on section allowed each participant to engage directly with the system, bridging the gap between classroom theory and real-world application.

The program culminated in a ceremony and recognition event, where each attendee received a certificate of attendance and a custom mini trophy, symbolising their successful completion of the training and commitment to continuous professional development.
Dirk van den Berg, technical trainer at AESSEAL South Africa, said:
We are proud to share knowledge that not only helps improve equipment reliability but also builds the confidence of plant personnel to proactively manage and maintain critical sealing systems.
By investing in training and skills development, AESSEAL continues to demonstrate our commitment to supporting customers with more than just world-class products - we deliver knowledge, reliability, and long-term value.
